Furnace fuse bravado!
Yo fellas! Then i have a fleck of a head scratcher here. Installed a make new furnace, condenser, and curl. Nosotros also retro fit a Honeywell zoning system. Against what I prefer to exercise we had to put the zoning dampers directly on the plenums. All of the wiring has been inspected, no snags or shorts, but the 3amp fuse keeps blowing on this furnace. I keep wondering if in that location is a short that i am just non seeing. But the fuse doesnt blow right away. Information technology keeps happening a couple weeks autonomously. Also each fourth dimension the HONEYWELL ZONING Control Board was but fine, its only the furnace.
Nosotros installed it, three weeks subsequently the fuse blew. Inspected the wiring and put a new fuse in and then the fuse blew once again about ii weeks subsequently. I set the bypass damper to the least resistance setting and set the dampers to iii/4 setting when closed so I could dominion out static pressure and the fuse even so blew. What's the low voltage current & voltage? How many transformers, what are the VA ratings?

- thanks for your response! Depression voltage is coming in at 123-130 at the plug, 1 24v transformer for the honeywell control board and one 24v transformer in the furnace. I am not currently on the site, I do non have a VA reading. Sorry

- I dont have a watt reading. information technology is a 120 to 24v transformer. The fuse that is blowing is the 3 amp control board fuse. When the electrician on site called me earlier he said he was getting 123 to the outlet. It is a Goodman furnace.

You need to supersede the 3 amp manufactory fuse with a 5 amp fuse. And so add another three amp fuse in-line for the yellow cooling wire to the outdoor unit. When it rains again yous need to see what one blows. Have the cooling fuse visible to the owner so they tin see it. Or, they can exam cooling after a rain to come across if it still works. If it is a problem with the wires to outdoor unit it volition blow the 3 amp and the oestrus volition still work with the 5 amp fuse however good.

The zoning board (which is a 2' wire run from the furnace) has equipment 24v terminal blocks that connnct to the furnace. That thermostat wire going from HW zoning board is clean. No shorts.
If the three thermostat wires going from the board to the thermostat had a short it would cause a trouble with the board. The lath is responding and operating perfectly.
- I similar that idea. They take just ran oestrus though, they haven't ran the cooling yet. without power going to the condenser wire would it really be a factor?

I have seen a tech miss wire the zone board and had a common from the furnace on the board or something to that result, anyways it would crusade problems merely every now and and so. I would double check to make sure the equipment and the zone lath don't have a misplaced wire or a thread of wire hit something.
Are yous sure the thermostat hasn't been set to cool (either past the homeowner or by an car function?)

What'south throwing me off is that I am non getting a lick of problem from the board, only the furnace. But the furnace wire is a 3' run, I tin can say for sure there are no shorts in it.

..... tough one to be sure. Endeavor ohming out the different 24v circuits that are hooked to the furnace. Maybe you have ii components that are on the edge and when run together they pull to much... Otherwise perhaps a bad board just I don't like to take that every bit a viable option until the very end.

Put your VOM leads on the ii transformers "R" leads. If they are phased correctly, the voltage volition exist "0" and if out of phase y'all will get a nominal 48V. If this happens, bandy leads on ane of the transformers and try again. Should go to zero.

I check for shorts past disconnecting all t stat wires first. Put a jumper where the fuse goes. Put an amp probe on the jumper. Put t stat wires on one by one. If information technology amps upwards at all, that wire is your short. Just a jumping off point anyway

I don't hateful to sound like an a**, just you lot practice have a brusk somewhere. Fuses don't blow by themselves on a regular basis. I ran my cocky crazy looking for 1 in my house. You say it's only heating manner? Go a box of fuses and put them online with all safeties, and stats and the zone board. Who always blows is the winner, at least you know where to look.
